We’ve known a Young Sheldon season 7 was happening for a long time now, and we absolutely can’t wait to see what’s in store next for the Cooper gang! Though the series is billed a comedy, it’s certainly more dramatic than its flagship series, The Big Bang Theory.
Unfortunately, a Young Sheldon season 7 release date has not been announced yet by CBS. Initially, the sitcom was supposed to return Thursdays in the fall 2023 television schedule, which is the regular timeslot of the series. At the time, this was due to the writers strike, followed by the actors strike that began on May 2 and July 14, respectively.
It’s unclear whether filming had started before the writers strike went into effect. But whether any filming has been done or not yet, CBS still chose to push the seventh season’s release date. That probably means they didn’t have enough material to air the first few episodes that would have taken us into around December before the show took its regular winter break, returning in January.
However the good news is that starting on Sept. 27, 2023, the writers strike ended and writers were able to get back to work! The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), who represents the big studios, were able to reach a tentative agreement. That means the strike is over and writers’ rooms are starting back up again. Members of the guild were supposed to officially vote on the new agreement on Oct. 3, but the group has not shared an update yet. Things are moving along though! Deadline reports that the week of Oct. 2, writers for multiple television shows have returned or are returning, including Young Sheldon season 7!
The actors strike is still ongoing, but the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has been in negotiations with the AMPTP. So. hopefully we get an update soon. Even so, season 7 isn’t going to be back this year, but hopefully we can get a potential January-March 2024 release date. This is what most networks have been aiming for as they pushed this year’s fall TV. I for one will stay positive and hope for the best!
